Maybe you were walking one day and decided that you regularly drink too much. Maybe you came to the conclusion that you’re really bored and haven’t had a hobby since the day you met that beautiful Austrian woman named Eva on Herrengasse. Maybe you’re going through a difficult relationship crisis and your significant other wants you out of your house. There are many maybes.

Once upon a time, since before THAT pandemic, I decided to organize some football matches with foreigners and locals; basically, anyone with an interest in football. We started small. Today, however, we’re not talking twenty or even fifty people. We’re talking nearly 3,000 individuals from all over the world who have, at some point in their lives, touched the football pitches of Vienna. They have put on my iconic bibs and played with people from all over. My goal was to play football; many, however, became friends and like family.

Every week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, we play football that is fun, friendly, and sometimes, when good players show up, it gets competitive. People improve their fitness and their skills, and they do it in a relaxed environment. There’s no referees, everything is fair and self-managed. That’s how I like it, and over time, I realized that’s how everyone likes it too.

After some time, we decided that some players were a bit better; they wanted more competition. So, we created the Meetup United FC. Here, the team tried to improve their skills and have a goal to achieve something. Imagine playing for a team in the Austrian league! That’s what we strove for. We are In the DSG Wien system, level 3 out of 5. The first level is DSG Liga, the second is Oberliga, then Unterliga (where Meetup United is playing currently), and finally, we have 1e Klasse and 2e Klasse.

So, maybe you decided that you wanted to give football a go and you came upon this idea to join. You might have some questions. You might wonder what benefits you get, what actually is achievable, how much it costs…you know, the basics. Luckily for you, we at Meetup United are ahead of the game. We have you covered…

-    The level of the football in Unterliga is not the most competitive, aggressive, or pro. The level is decent and clean, a factor that everyone in the club tends to view as perfect for practice and experimentation. In the last two to three years, we have been promoted twice. We started in 2018 but was stalled for two seasons by Covid 19. We went from the bottom to Unterliga. The likelihood of relegating is slim, so every year we sit and consider promotion. It’s an exciting journey to be on.

-    Say you enjoy playing football but you want to kinda show off to your special one, whether that’s your wife, girlfriend or grandma. We got it covered. We film our matches, whether they are official matches, tournaments or a simple training session. All our football events are equally important and we treat these as chances to learn and grow. The access to the video library is free for all our members. Members can manually create highlights; some are created automatically through the app.veo.co portal. More info about this can be found on our partner website veo.co.

-    You ever met a team that just didn’t make you feel at home? Maybe it was hard to adapt to their style or even way of communicating. Rest assured with the fact that we’re easy and flexible. We try to be as comfortable and open to everyone; after all, most of us are foreign ourselves. We understand the difficulty. We chose the name Meetup because a majority of us found each other via the social media platform Meetup.com. That doesn’t mean, however, that we’ll stick to this name. We’re always open to expanding and having people collaborate with us. Many it’s the local Irish pub down the street or a really big company like Coca-Cola. We’re always open to a discussion for further growth. That can be as simple as you bringing a friend of yours to come play or deciding to invest via sponsorships. It's clear our club and organization  will continue to get bigger, get promoted, play better football. So, come on board and join the party. Be part of this incredible project!

-    We like to think that we’re brilliant people here and we like math and numbers. We’re all about statistics when it comes to our football. We have collaborations with Korastats (Egypt) and Instats (Belgium). We are looking at these stats from a training perspective. The purpose is simple. What do we need improving from? How do we tackle issues that help us get promoted and enable us to play better? We know this is important. It’s great to have fun but the feeling is better when we win and go up.

-    Who doesn’t love a discount? Registered members of Meetup United FC get a discount when playing during the week. Either a 100% discount, or a 30%. So instead paying 15€ per event, the cost is either reduced to 10€ or free to play. Certain conditions apply to this matter. If you’re interested, check with Sorin for more details as currently there are 3 membership options available for our members. Of course, we have the right to choose our members based on various things like fair play, sportsmanship or football skill. Probably the same criteria you have for choosing what type of schools you wish to go to. Who doesn’t want good people and good quality?

-    Say you love us, can’t get enough of us, and wish to truly adorn your walls and body with our logos. We have you covered. Go to FOOTXP.COM. There we get personalized shirts, shorts, or socks. The purchase of various football equipment will be provided thru the virtual store, like shinpads, caps or various training gear. We are still in the process of picking up a partner for our store and discussions are in progress. Nothing as of yet, but expect things to happen as we get better and grow more.

-    Perhaps you’re a philosopher. You have some questions. What’s the philosophy of the club? It’s pretty simple: we are into this together- we need to be literally playing united – passing the ball between each other is our main hobby. Helping each other through various development cycles is everyone’s main interest. We don’t insult each other, we don’t talk bad, we are part of an international community and respect is on everyone’s mind at any given moment. That’s it.
